4 Features Wednesday May 9, 2001 Boredom has never been this much fun Lindsey McGuire Jibsheet Reporter Instead of visiting those dirty sites the next time you find yourself with a little extra time on your hands and near a computer, I highly recommend that you try exploring the wonderful world of boredom. When you visit the amazing world of boredom, www.bored.com, you will find that boredom has never been so fun. Soon you will find yourself taking a jog down memory lane at "Yesterday land," where you can pick from any era and explore your childhood all over again. Search through Saturday morning cartoon shows and favorite char- acters memorabilia. Scooby Doo, Fragle Rock, Smurfs, Care Bears, My Little Pony, Transformers, He-Man, and Sheera are all waiting for you to rediscover their special magic. You could even find yourself picking up useless facts like what WD-40 really means, how to pick a lock, or maybe finding out how much an elephant weighs. You may possi- bly even find out why different things exist, and how they are created, like chocolate, or glue. Maybe you can even figure out what hot dogs are really made out of, if you are brave enough to do so. In addition to participating in school-related activities, an election for new officers was held last month. The new officers are: President: Rachel Garner Vice President: Cyrus Haselman Public Relations: Kim Isaacs Treasurer: Heena Khatri Communications: Allen Maxwell Recording Officer: Catherine Djunaedi Hallmark Officers: Osama Parvez, Gabriela Fedorova, Ben Brooks, Jack Osara. Lisa Hobbs, outgoing Chapter president, is proud of the accomplishments made this and offers wisdom to the new officers next year, "Encourage and get to know one another, and appreciate each person's gifts and talents. The Kids Fair was our big dream. Develop your own dream and work together to make it flourish. Demonstrate endurance, understanding, and academic and character excellence though out this year." The new president is Rachel Garner, a first year BCC student. Garner would like to collaborate with the other members of Phi Theta Kappa to create campus activities that also includes community. She wants the to "celebrate the traditions and customs of the cultures we see in front of us everyday. Her goals for the future include transfering to a four-year university to major in pre-law and minor in business management. Garner is also the co- president of BSU, Black Student Union New vice president, Cyrus Haselman, is a twenty year- old first year student at BCC. His professional goal is to earn a degree in medicine and says, "I thrive on interacting and working through things with other people, and the science of medicine will never cease to amaze me." Outside of school, Cyrus is a part-time carpenter, a member of the ski patrol, likes to bike and backpack, and a mentor for the Big Brothers and Big Sisters Program of King County. Allen Maxwell, Communications Officer, is in his third quarter at BCC, majoring in Computer Science transfer. Maxell intends to pursue a Software Engineering degree at the UW. He is ex-military and presently works part-time with a VA Advocate for ex-POW's, at the Washington State Department of Veteran Affairs. His goals are to increase membership and participation though higher visibility and communication of activities. Kim Isaacs, Public Relations, is an art major at BCC. She looks forward to her new position and especially enjoys working with people. Treasurer, Heena Khatri, describes herself as efficient, detail-oriented, and organized. She currently work for a mid-size construction company as the assistant controller. Khatri's accounting background will be beneficial for the treasurer position. Catherine Djunaedi, Recording Officer, has been at BCC for one year and a member of Phi Theta Kappa for two quarters. She is well suited for the secretary position since she is already familiar with the work. Djunaedi wants to help arrange the meetings so more members can attend. One of the four new Hallmark officers is Osama Parvez, an international student. Parvez graduated from Doha State of Qatar in 1998, joined (ICAP) Institute of Cont. on page 5, PTK
